Go on a RAMPAGE

Updated: Aug 3, 2023

Unhealthy coping mechanisms for anger, frustration, stress, sadness, anxiety, and fear can include lashing out at others, engaging in aggressive behavior, excessive complaining, blaming others, self-destructive behaviors such as substance abuse, isolating oneself, engaging in self-harm, using substances to numb the pain, avoidance of triggering situations, excessive worrying, relying on unhealthy habits such as overeating or excessive drinking, avoidance, denial, seeking constant reassurance from others, self-medicating with substances, engaging in risky behaviors, or ignoring the symptoms altogether. Emotional eating is also a common unhealthy coping mechanism. These coping mechanisms may provide temporary relief but can ultimately worsen the underlying issues.

Please see the infographics below on how to utilize the rampage model to begin turning reactions and unhealthy coping around.

Exercise is considered a healthy coping mechanism because it has numerous physical and mental health benefits. When you engage in physical activity, your body releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters that can help reduce stress and improve your overall well-being. Exercise also increases blood flow to the brain, which can enhance cognitive function and improve your ability to focus and concentrate. Additionally, regular exercise can help regulate sleep patterns, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and boost self-confidence. It can also provide a healthy distraction from negative thoughts and emotions, allowing you to channel your energy into something positive.
